Abstract

The study examines the role of strategic planning in revitalizing urban spaces and its impact on local economic growth. The revitalization of Citra Niaga District in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, is taken as a case study where the area is currently transforming from a once-stagnant business centre into a vibrant creative hub through strategic planning initiatives. A qualitative case study approach is employed to provide a comprehensive overview of the phenomenon. Data were gathered through intensive observation, interviews, and documentation. Research informants were selected using a purposive sampling to obtain rich historical insights and experiences regarding the overall condition of the area. The findings indicate that the implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan-which include product innovation, human resources capacity building, and digital promotion-is the key strategy for restoring the area’s economic vitality. The success of this urban revitalization is a result of a planned and strategic approach that integrated community – based initiatives with targated policy support and it’s pivotal for building a strong city branding and creating a sustainable city.
